Just finished the Mockingjay... the third Hunger Games book. Even if you don't read YA generally... I highly recommend this series. I don't want to give it away for those reading it... but the final installment was worth sleep deprivation.

It is a fast paced and well thought story using some familiar ideas (ie: Greek myth) with some pretty cool innovations. Some unexpected twists throughout. I know the third installment kept me guessing--I couldn't ever commit to how I thought it would end. But it was satisfying in the end, in its way. Suzanne Collins first person writing style is one that really doesn't waste words (this is the thing I love best... I never skip or scan a word when reading her) so it's consumable. Yet the character conflict and world building keeps it multi-layered and thick with content. It's just really tight writing. Collins isn't afraid to bring her reader through the dregs with the protagonist or bombard you with her world or it's politics (whilst still keep you flipping pages). She's got a clear vision of what kind of story she wants her reader to experience. Dare I say... it's the best I've read? (I'm afraid to boast so... cause the third book is still settling and I still feel squishy from it... but I think it's true). Plus, you go through so much with these characters... it's so hard to let them go. I'd call her a writers writer and a readers storyteller. Does that help? I don't want to give content away to anyone who hasn't read it and wants to. Buzz... perhaps... but buzz I think that's backed by great craft.

This Book is No Good For You, Pseudononymous Bosch (Book 3 in the Secret series) It's a fun read. For middle grade readers. But its perfect for me right now, as my sister has put a rush order on new chapters of my ms. So I can pick it up when I have a minute and read a couple pages. The Secret series is really cute tho. Definitely worth checking out. (1st book: "The Name of This Book is Secret. 2nd book: "If You're Reading This It's Too Late")

I'm reading an ARC of Elizabeth Tudor, Vampire Slayer. It's okay so far. I'm not much into historical fiction, but I love vamps. Her nemesis is King Arthur's son, Morded, who is a powerful vampire that seems to have some connection to her. She's like a Buffy, from what I gather. THE Slayer. I'll tell you more when I finish it. It's supposed to be out in January.
