I have a bard character in D&D name Frank N. Furter. Yes, he's named after and acts like Frank from RHPS, but his fave song is Monty Python's "Sit on My Face." ;D
Yes, I'm a very strange person and I've played D&D for years...with very sick people.

You do realize exactly how much those two sentences revealed about you, right?
P.S. And that makes me love you even more.

Not really, DL....at least not when it comes to what was my original gaming group. Very very very sick people.
Now that I think about it, I could so use some of the crap we did in those games for writing material if I ever write "traditional" fantasy, which I intend to do one day.

Frank N. Furter! Love it! I had some pretty irresponsible Dungeon Masters that I played with... rule bending, ridiculous story threads. For example: I once was allowed to stomp on a bag of holding because it was all I had left on me (weapons lost, holed up in a cave with no hope and no way out) and I blew up a legion of Orcs with that one single act of lunacy! So... ironically... despite her strangeness, J, could write great fantasy drawing from her D&D experiences.... and I would be left writing a fantasy parody with the ones I drew from... the question is... would it be good fantasy parody? (See how that circled back around to parody? That's literary genius at work.) ::chuckle:: ::sigh:: I'll stop now, before I hurt myself... or one of you does it for me.

Bags of Holding are fun! I used one to decapitate a guard once and rescue my party from jail. Of course, the whole reason they ended up in jail was because they were involved in a tavern brawl....which my character may/may not have started by turning invisible and pouring a flagon of cold beer down a barbarian's pants.
Oh, and then there was the time when another one of my characters released a skunk into a tavern from her her Bag of Holding. At least we were able to smell the bad guys coming for that campaign. ;D
Yeah....good times....good times.... But Michelle raises an interesting question: whose fantasy would be a parody?
Purists would undoubtedly can my version of fantasy (based on past D&D adventures) because of scenes like the skunk.....or getting transported to modern-day NYC via magical portal and attacking NYPD police cars with broadswords and magic missles.
Hmm...things to ponder....

Is this the thread where I order Bags of Holding? I would like three - one for each of the closets that I need to clean out but don't like to throw anything away.
Jeannie - I would love you to write your version of a fantasy novel!!
*fantasizes what that would be like*
*grins*

Definitely interesting thing to ponder... fantasy as parody. The faculty or activity of imagining things, esp. things that are impossible or improbable. By definition fantasy denotes that the skies the limit. So really... can any fantasy be a parody?
I'm working off of 3.5 hours sleep here... perhaps I'm over thinking this.

LOL at elle's Cleavage of Holding! I am sending that link to Ailish RIGHT NOW. She and her friends are rabid D&Ders. I'm so proud!
We've hijacked the heck out of this thread, haven't we?

It needed hijacking... either that or to die. Cleavage of holding is a whole other website, I think. I'll let Elle handle that.
