Wait until your next birthday....maybe the pain will be less. That's a hard one to call, Jeannie.

Hmmm I don't know what to say. You could save it for a special occasion

That is sad, Jeannie. But in a way, it's really a special gift. I'd love to find something like that from my mom. I'll bet in the end it will make you smile. HUGS

Considering I can't even look at her handwriting on the envelope without bursting into tears, I'm going to follow Deb's advice and wait.

Thanks, y'all. The card has been relegated to A Place of Safety for now. On the good news front, new AC unit will be installed Friday morning. The bad news to this is we have to live with 90 degree temps until then.

Yay for the new AC. Today I saved a box turtle from Little Girl. She was pitching a fit out back. When I went out to see what had her going, she picked him up and tried to run off. There was a lttl blood and some of the shell redge was chewed off but that's all I could see. He was closed up tight. I set him down in the front yard. Now he is gone.

You know how when the fire alarm goes off in the apartment next to yours, so it isn't the most annoying sound ever, but it still interferes with your brain and makes you unable to function?? Well, that's pretty much just like when our cockatiel Hammie sounds the flock call at our house. He does it every night, every three seconds a squawk that's just annoying enough to grate on your nerves, and he does it until you put him to bed. As cute as all his other tweets are, it's about right now that I'm tempted to throw something soft and scary toward-- but not directly at-- him so he will SHUT UP Other than that, he's really really cute. Really. This is Hammie (the yellow one):

I get to spend a while on the phone with HR because I am finally fed up with all the fudgeing bullcrap I've had to put up with at the office store .... the straw that made me say fudge it? the assistant manager told me (and basically all the other employees in the store since he said it over the walkie talkies) that the only things I'm good for are answering the phone and pestering him. I either want to rip something to shreds or curl up in a little ball and cry myself to sleep.

I used to have 2 male cockatiels. They were great but messy. Worf was the first one and Wheezer was the other one.
I thought naming a small bird after a Kingon was funny. Wheezer was a fat bird. He was fat when i got him and stayed that way. He'd always pant after flying even if it was just a short one.
One day I went in to feed them and found poor little Worf dead. While dealing with that, I took Wheezer out to the car port. in the cage.
Later when I went back to get him, he was gone. I left the door open and didn't realize it. I lost them both on the dame day. It was not a good day for me.

I just noticed the Miki smiley I have even sadder bird stories but I'll not go there. I like birds but I wont have any more. I have two cats now and 3 dogs. One of the cats(Fuzzy) is a professional assassin. She kills all kinds of prey from the smallest gecko to squirrels that are almost as big as she is. She's not very big.

Ailish officially has a summer job working for the evil empire (Wal-Mart). This is the first non-academic related job she's ever had. She had training on Friday from 8:30a-5:30p. She couldn't understand why it was going to take 9 hours to teach her how to put boxes on shelves. I explained how she would be spending the day watching videos on safety, harassment, etc. Basically, all the stuff so the company can say, "Hey, we told you about that so you can't sue us". She starts her regular shift tonight, 10p-7a. Looks like my family is just filled with night dwellers.

Congrats to Ailish! Maybe she can start a revolution and take over the evil empire from the ground level. Just tell her not to use the word "union" in a sentence at work or she won't even feel the door hit her on the way out!
